BOE Curriculum Sub-Committee

The BOE Curriculum Council sub-committee is an advisory committee led by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. This committee will report findings and make recommendations to members of the Board of Education. The primary goal of this committee is to ensure ongoing improvement of the district’s educational programs. Through its review of current instructional programs and implementation of best practice, the Council seeks to:
  • support the district's mission, vision, goals, and priorities
  • provide students with rigorous educational programs which align to the Vision of the Putnam Learner
  • provide students with instructional programs which will enable them to meet and exceed CT state standards, national standards, and other content area standards.

Responsibilities of Council Members

  • Review all materials being presented at the Council meeting.
  • Consider the implications of approving or eliminating PreK – 12 programs and/or courses being presented at the committee meeting.
  • Be an active participant in the Council meeting.
  • Review and make a recommendation to the full Board of Education to approve/disapprove latest programs or courses that were discussed.
  • Designate one Council member to serve as the Chairperson for the group.
  • Communicate and share the work of the Council.

Operating Guidelines

Meeting Schedule: The Council typically holds 3-4 meetings per year. Historically, meetings have been held prior to a regular meeting of the board, beginning at 5:45 pm and running for approximately one hour. Members should make every attempt to be present at each meeting.
Agendas/Minutes: Agendas and supporting documentation will be made available to the members of the Council prior to the meeting. Minutes of the meeting will be made available to the Council and BOE membership following the meeting.
Outcomes/Goals: The Chairperson will represent the Council at Board of Education meetings. The Council will make every attempt to reach consensus on whether to approve/disapprove new courses or programs.
