Professional Development Committee

The PDEC is an advisory committee comprised of staff representing all building levels in the district and is led by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. This committee will review current staff evaluation practices as well as professional development priorities. The primary goal of this committee is to ensure ongoing improvement of the district’s evaluation and professional development events. Through its review of current initiatives and implementation of best practice, the PDEC seeks to:

  • support the district's mission, vision, goals, and priorities
  • provide staff with current and practical staff evaluation methods
  • provide staff with professional development opportunities to advance their skills and ensure students are receiving instruction aligned to state standards and students are being assessed as appropriate.

Responsibilities of the PDEC Members

  • Review all materials being presented at the Council meeting including the CSDE guidelines.
  • Consider the implications of editing current practices.
  • Be an active participant in the Council meeting.
  • Review staff surveys and seek opportunities for staff development.
  • Communicate and share the work of the Council with building staff and administrators.

Operating Guidelines

Meeting Schedule: The Council typically holds 3-4 meetings per year, running for approximately one hour. Members should make every attempt to be present at each meeting.
Agendas/Minutes: Agendas and supporting documentation will be made available to the members of the Council prior to the meeting. Minutes of the meeting will be made available to the Council following the meeting.

Outcomes/Goals: The Council will make every attempt to reach consensus on whether to approve/disapprove new courses, programs and instructional materials.
